Wellness Focus Improves Health Plan Outcomes and Employee Productivity

Challenge
Local county government was seeing increase in annual renewals. Carrier (Humana) offered renewal discounts for certain engagement benchmarks with their online wellness program (Go365) and the group needed a strategy on how to achieve the benchmarks needed to earn the discount on their renewal.
Solution
AssuredPartners Health & Productivity team developed a strategy to include development of a wellness committee and attended various departmental meetings to rollout the Go365 program. Annual biometric screenings were coordinated and held onsite, bulk purchases of fitness devices were given away and monthly challenges developed to drive engagement. Customized communication campaigns were deployed to employees with tailored messaging to drive participation and engagement. Monthly reporting updates were shared.
Results
Developed year over year analysis of wellness program and its financial and claims impact. Wellness benchmarks have been achieved each year partnered with Assured Health & Productivity team. During a 3-year period, client has seen a direct cost savings of $648,000 due to the wellness credits earned. In addition, and due to the high rates of engagement with the Go365 program, Humana awarded the group with $50,000 in wellness funds to be used in 2021. Funds were spent on additional programming like health coaching. In addition to the financial impact of the wellness efforts, claims analysis shows improved compliance with clinical care conditions as well as biometric improvement in the areas of BMI, blood pressure, glucose, and metabolic syndrome.
