Susan Petersen, a Fleet Marketing Manager based in Georgia, knows firsthand that military families require a great deal of flexibility, patience, and support. She and her husband are both retired military members, while her daughter and son-in-law, Kelly and Trevor Reiss are both active Air Force members. When they’re deployed, it’s often up to Susan to travel to wherever her family is stationed to take care of her young grandchildren.
The process can be stressful, but the support of her boss, Agency President Bob Fuller, has helped her tame the chaos.
“Bob has always provided all the support and equipment that I need in order for me to work remotely wherever my kids are stationed,” says Susan. “I can work without skipping a beat, which means my kids can take care of their military commitments and focus on their missions without worry.”
This is one of the reasons that Susan’s family nominated Bob for the Department of Defense Patriotic Employer Award. The award honors civilian supervisors who support Service members and their families through a wide range of employment-related efforts, including flexible schedules, time off prior to and after employment, family care, and leaves of absence if needed. Bob was presented the award by Susan and her family on November 8, 2024 at his office in St. Simons, GA.
“To support our Military is a distinct and great honor,” Bob stated while accepting his award. “Our team is well aware that we’re only able to do what we do because of what our military does every day.”
Kelly, who officially submitted Bob’s nomination, wrote that Bob’s support for her family has been “invaluable” to her career. “His understanding of the unique challenges my family faces in balancing military duties with civilian responsibilities has significantly impacted my ability to serve effectively,” says Kelly. “His dedication to creating a culture of respect and support deserves to be recognized and celebrated. Bob’s encouragement and pride in supporting our Nation’s military exemplify the qualities of a dedicated leader, and I’m grateful for this steadfast support.”
AssuredPartners would like to congratulate Bob on his recognition and extend our gratitude to Kelly, Trevor, Susan, and all of our nation’s active and retired military for their unwavering service to our country!
