NCAL Releases Annual Assisted Living Regulatory Review

10/15/2018 Written by: AP Senior Living Risk Management Solutions

The National Center for Assisted Living (NCAL) completed an analysis of assisted living licensure or certification changes for each state along with the District of Columbia. Twenty-nine states made changes to their requirements in the past year. While there was a wide range of changes from state to state, the common theme identified relates to staff, specifically additional training requirements and expanded or clarified background check requirements. Several states addressed administrator qualifications in their changes as well as direct care staff competency.

Over the next year, half of the states have commented that they will be reviewing, proposing, formally reviewing, or considering changes that would affect assisted living communities. Potential changes range from a complete review of licensure requirements to targeted regulatory updates to implementation of new legislation, as well as changes to Medicaid requirements for participating assisted living communities.

The AP Senior Living team is able to assist communities in meeting the scope of new changes and will be monitoring upcoming changes in order to provide solutions to meet any revisions. For additional information, contact our team of experts.
